So, we're playing a little catch up...
The kids and I drove to Ohio to visit my family last Friday, and it was a fast fun-filled extended weekend! (Scot couldn't go with us because he had to work. Boo.)
The drive there all day Friday was pretty uneventful - the kids did great! We unpacked, settled in, gave lots of hugs to Mamaw and Papaw + fell asleep early.
First up was the Shindle Christmas celebration on Saturday at Mums' nursing home. (Mums is my last grandparent left living and suffers from Alzeimer's and dementia, so she can't walk, can't talk and doesn't remember any of her family. Very hard to watch.) Everyone brought food, drinks and goodies. The little kids played games and opened gifts in the gift book exchange. Some went caroling for a bit. All of us had plenty of time to chat and catch up!
It was so good to see Mums. To talk to her and give her hugs. The best moment of the day was when I got down on her level, looked her in the eyes and said "I love you so much, Mums." Her eyes welled up with tears, and she put her head down. In that moment, it clicked. I know she remembered who I was and wanted so much to share something, but she couldn't. All she could do is receive love from all of us - and she definitely received a lot of love from us that day!
She loved Connor's soft blanky, too. I think she would have kept it if we let her!

So many aunts + uncles, cousins + second cousins. With our precious Mums. It was a special day to be together.
