Here's a little recap of our time away:
The first day was our driving day. A 7-hour drive with stops for lunch + potty breaks + gas fill-ups turns into 9-10 hours in no time.
The NASA rocket at the Alabama welcome center is our favorite stop every time we go.
We arrived at our final destination by 8pm that night. Scot's Aunt Bonnie, Uncle Charles + 13-year-old nephew Kevin were so sweet to let us stay at their house for our 6-day stay.
On the 2nd day, we went to Big Kahunas water park, but unfortunately, it closed as soon as we arrived due to rain and thunder. We left and got lunch at Fudpucker's instead - let the kids have fun on the playground and checked out all the cool alligators while we were there.
We headed back to the water park for the rest of the day once it stopped raining. The kids loved it there!
We spent our 3rd day on a small boat that Charles + Bonnie rented with their monthly boat club. Charles chaffeured us around all over the bay with plenty of snacks and drinks on board. We went swimming in the bluest waters of the Gulf and the kids even went tubing for the first time! Fun memories for sure.
Connor fell asleep for 1.5 hours on my lap while the kids went tubing.
After changing clothes in the parking lot, we ate an early dinner at the Back Porch restaurant. A family favorite.
Our 4th day was spent driving an hour away to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola.
Visiting Scot's grandparents' graves at the cemetery in Navarre.
Driving to Destin for some good ol' family fun at the Track.
We picked up some pizzas for dinner and swam in Charles + Bonnie's pool later that night.
Our last day there was a rainy one. It rained all day. Perfect day to shop at the outlets, get lunch in the drive-thru and visit family. This time we visited with Scot's Uncle Mike + Aunt Linda + cousin Dana and her husband. Too busy catching up to take pics.
Some other fun, memorable moments of our trip:
Packing sandwiches, snacks and drinks in our cooler each day // Letting the kids stay up until 10 or 11pm every night // Hearing Connor say, "Take bath at Nonny's house" over and over // Watching the kids play with trains at Bonnie's // Jake and Kevin playing video games // Brooklyn losing her 2nd tooth in the car and telling her the Tooth Fairy is on vacation // Getting ice cream at all our favorite places in Destin // Buying t-shirts, souvenirs and candy at our favorite shops - Alvin's Island and the Candymaker // Visiting the Panhandle Butterfly House in Navarre, then finding it was closed :( // Watching the sun set over the ocean each night // Taking a fun 2-hour stop in Birmingham, AL finding good deals at a comic book store on the way home
All in all, it was a great visit with family and a great vacation to spend together as a family.
We will miss these beautiful Florida sunsets.
Until next year...
