First Homecoming Dance

After much thought and deliberation, Jacob decided to go to his first middle school homecoming dance on Friday. And not just go alone either - he wanted to ask his friend Lola to go with him, but that was the hardest part.

Last week after school was when Jake informed me of his plans. Scot and I were fine either way, but Jake was determined he wasn't going to the dance by himself. So, he walked up the hill to Lola's house (thankfully, she lives right up the street) in hopes to ask her to the dance. He was a complete and utter mess, mind you. Nervous as any 11-year-old boy would be, but I knew he'd be fine.

Lola's mom told me later that Lola was busy playing video games when Jake arrived. Jake went and stood by the couch, laughing and pretending to be into the game. The whole time, both knew what the other was thinking, but he couldn't get up the nerve to ask her. Finally...almost an hour later (ha!), Jake said the magic words, "Will you go to the homecoming dance with me?" Lola immediately jumped up and said, "YES!" A second later, and Jake was out the door.

One of the funniest stories I've ever heard. (On top of the fact that they're too embarrassed to say hello or even acknowledge each other at school. Ha!)

Here's the cute shy-and-embarrassed couple:

They sure look good together, don't they?

And their formal pics at school:

They were very deliberate with what they were going to wear that night, but they were so embarrassed for pictures. The embarrassment soon faded, though, once they got to the dance with their friends, and they both ended up having a blast!

So proud of this guy and the courage it took to put himself out there and do something fun.

Another milestone down in the books...not sure I'm ready for all this.
