K12 Online Homeschool {review}

During our homeschool decision process for Brooklyn, I researched all kinds of curriculum for kindergarten. With a little help from a preschool friend, I stumbled upon the K12 online homeschool program and instantly fell in love with it! As you know, we decided to send Brooklyn to public school instead. But, before I gave back all the books and supplies K12 sent me for the year, I thought I'd do a little review so you could see what you'd get if you decided to enroll your child in this great program.

To see how online public schooling is different, check out the K12 website here. They have online schools or "virtual schools" in most states that partner with K12. And the best part - they're all free!

With the K12 program, students enrolled in the online public school program enjoy:
  • A tuition-free education
  • State-certified teachers, with a parent or other responsible adult in the role of "Learning Coach"
  • Learning at home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found
  • Flexible pacing and an Individualized Learning Plan
  • A combination of online and offline coursework - including a wide array of textbooks, CD's, videos, and hands-on materials - as part of a comprehensive K-8 or high school program
  • The excitement of joining a community of connected learners with a wide range of extracurricular clubs and programs
  • A loaner computer and subsidized Internet access where needed*
Parents of children in grades K-6 can expect to spend 3-5 hours per day supporting their child's education. In grades 7-12, students will spend 5-6 hours per day on coursework and homework, which most parents believe is "just right." And you're connected with certified teachers and customer support representatives in grades K-8, plus advisors, counselors and coordinators in high school, who will focus on your child's potential with an individualized plan that evolves as your child grows.

I registered Brooklyn for kindergarten in their program in May, and by early August, I received 9 boxes full of books and supplies for the year! (Those books and supplies are free, but they must be sent back at the end of the year with shipping labels supplied by K12.)

Keep in mind this is just for kindergarten.

Everything was labeled, organized and easy to read.

They included so many great children's books and workbooks.

Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of books and supplies K12 sent us. Their certified teachers and customer support reps were so nice and helpful on the phone. I will definitely keep this program in mind if we ever decide to homeschool in the future. It's a perfect alternative to public school.

I was not paid by K12 to review their products. I just fell in love with them when we considered homeschooling our daughter. I returned all the books and supplies I received from K12 once we decided to send her to public school.
