Family Vacation // 2012

Last week we vacationed in Gatlinburg, and man, it felt so good to get away. This was our first vacation as a family of five. (We surprised Jake by picking up his best friend, Michael, on the way, so technically, there were six of us.)

It was a little crazy at times with three kids and a baby (who was on the tail-end of a cold and had to take four different medicines, special-ordered formula and baby food several times a day), but we did it and we made so many fun memories along the way.

We made a pit-stop at a Taco Bell in the middle of nowhere and then we saw the Smoky Mountains getting closer and closer. The view was just breathtaking.

We stayed at the Bearskin Lodge right in the heart of Gatlinburg. A nice hotel, but we decided we could use a little more space next time.

The kids' favorite part - the heated lazy river and outdoor pool!

Washing bottles every night was a must.

Our view off the patio was so nice and quiet. I enjoyed feeding Connor his bottle out there each morning.

We hit the town every day. Big time.

Connor was flexible and played or slept wherever we went. He is one sweet baby.

The kids did laser tag, arcade games and the skylift at night.

We went to the indoor waterpark one day.

We checked out the aquarium. So fun. That place never gets old.

We rode rides, bumper boats and go-karts at the Track.

We ate at all our favorite restaurants.

(Just ignore my post-surgery belly.)

The kids picked out souvenirs and candy to bring home.

The kids found the largest gummy worm ever made.

And we even saw Santa in the huge Christmas store!

It rained part of the time, but we still had plenty of fun.

Except for those winding backroads through the mountains in the pelting rain. Those are never fun.

We were sad to say goodbye to those beautiful mountains and all the fun we had there.

Now, it's back to laundry, errands, doctor's appointments, playdates and back-to-school shopping. Hard to believe the summer's already halfway over.
