We (meaning Scot with Jake's help) got our Christmas tree and decorations down from the attic on Sunday. We had visions of everyone working together, decorating the house while listening to Christmas carols but with a 9-year old, an almost 4-year old and a 9-month pregnant mama, things didn't quite go as planned.
It took longer than we thought to get the tree assembled and for me to string the lights. The kids went crazy handling all the Christmas decorations and ornaments. They ran around and used the tree ribbon as streamers and wrapped themselves up like mummies. Brooklyn accidentally broke one ornament so we stopped to clean that up. The kids fought the whole afternoon about anything and everything it seemed. And then before we knew it, it was time for dinner and bed.
This is all we got accomplished on day one.
All this to say, we have learned our lesson and we are going to do things a little differently next year. (Like assembling the tree and stringing the lights after the kids go to bed.) It's difficult decorating for the holidays with little ones around, but we're learning to be flexible as we go.
Our family decorating may have not gone the best on Sunday, but the second half on Monday night was much better. Since everything was already up and ready to go, we let the kids pull out all the Christmas ornaments and hang them wherever they wanted.
They went to town, sometimes putting six or seven ornaments on one branch. But, they had a good time and that's all that matters.
It was Brooklyn's turn to put the angel on the tree this year and she took her job very seriously.
I'm telling you, the tree looks beautiful. These two little helpers did a great job.
I love our decorated mantel too. [Do you see what I see?]
Now, we can say the tree is officially trimmed. And we survived. :)
Christmas, here we come!
