Here was our bedroom before:
Yucky red curtains, hideous ceiling fan, dark walls. And the computer. It made our room feel and look like a dorm room. We were ready for a change.
Scot and I look at these pictures now and think, "Was it really that bad?" Why, yes. Yes, it was.
We (mostly Scot) got things moved, taped and ready to paint.
We loaded everything into the kitchen and Jake's room to sort through later. Boy, what a job.
Scot and his brother spent an entire Saturday priming the walls and painting two coats of paint. While the walls dried, they installed two new ceiling fans. One in our bedroom and one in Jake's bedroom. (The fans in Brooklyn's room and the den will be installed later.)
The guys put all the furniture back together. The next couple weeks was spent sorting and weeding through all the junk, finding a new home for everything or giving things to Goodwill. And buying new accessories too.
Before we go any further, let me remind you what our room looked like before.
Here's our new room. I think it might even qualify as an Extreme Makeover: DIY Edition, if I say so myself. :)
[New paint color: Sherwin Williams macadamia. The only thing that's missing are the new curtains that need to be hung.]
We have extra space in this corner for a glider and ottoman and reading lamp that we plan to get this fall.
We found two nightstands on craigslist for $35 each. They are solid wood and were bought at Ashley Furniture a couple years ago. They have the normal wear-and-tear, but they match perfectly with our other furniture. It was exactly what we were looking for.
[Frames still need to be filled with pics.]
This wall holds our ironing board cabinet (that we never use) and our new clock.
The computer has been moved into Jake's room, so we had room to put Scot's dresser in the corner. The TV is perfect here.
And my dresser is cleaned off and looks simple but pretty.
We love, love, love our new room. Updated ceiling fan and all.
We actually look forward to our alone time after the kids go to bed when we can hang out and enjoy this beautiful room. Our own little retreat from the outside world.
All the time and work was totally worth it. We are lovin' it.
