Radical Commitment

We just finished up the Radical series with our church a couple weeks ago. It was an amazing read and left quite an impact on our family.

We have decided to join our church in doing the Radical Commitment experiment for the next year, so we are committing to these five challenges:

Read through the entire Word.
I printed off the daily Bible reading program through Blue Letter Bible and Scot is following through YouVersion on his phone. It is a big sacrifice to read several chapters of the Bible each day, but we are making this a priority. Sometimes life gets busy, though, so if you miss a few days, no big deal. You can always catch up. Like me. :)

Pray for the entire world.
I am not the best at focusing outside my community or country during my prayer time, but I'm going to work on that this year. A great resource our church recommends is Operation World. This site lists specific, detailed needs to be praying for in different countries each day. You'll have to check it out!

Sacrifice my money for a specific purpose.
For the next year, we are going to put a cap on our lifestyle so we can give to others, particularly the lost and the poor. We are continuing our monthly tithe to the church, but we are going to give generously to others in need as well. I'm thankful that we live in a smaller home and have older cars in order to do that.

Spend time in another context.
For the next year, we are committing to giving 2% {one week} of our time in ministry or service to others. God doesn't just want our money, He wants our time too.

Commit my life to a multiplying community.
We will commit ourselves wholeheartedly to our local church. I am involved in women's Bible studies, a MOPS group, VBS and both of us work in the nursery occasionally. We are really making an effort to get active in our church and we are meeting so many great people as a result.

God is going to do some amazing things in all of us this next year. We're so excited to be a part of this!
